Basking in the Warm Days of May
the leaves have popped, flowers are blooming, and birds twittering
Our first warm spell has arrived causing the leaves to pop and flowers to unfold. Branches no longer look bare and empty, instead, flourishing under the warmth of the spring sun. Early wildflowers have begun, and signs are noticed of my favourite ones to come in the weeks ahead.
I slowly step between trees; stretching over logs and avoiding the glistening tendrils of spider webs strung between branches.
Sunlight filters through the canopy, highlighting leaves and lingering raindrops while casting the hidden nooks of the forest into deep shadows.
The contrast of dark and light is striking and my eye is drawn to the naturally formed spotlights dotting the surrounding woodland.
The ground cover is bountiful again, covering the soil beneath with green leaves and soon-to-bloom flowers.
Though some flowers can be found already…
I pause by the rushing river for a moment, watching the water burble and splash onto the moss-covered stones; sentinels of green standing motionless amidst the water’s constant flow.
Eventually, I find myself at the lake’s edge where a pair of common mergansers have found a lovely perch.
As they swim off, I catch another little bird friend close by, this one striking in its patches of bright yellow and trilling song. A type of warbler, I believe, though I cannot remember its proper name.
So ends this snippet of the sunshine-filled, warm days of May. Thanks for spending a quiet moment with me.
See you next time,
♡ Whitney
Beautiful photos and words. If only more of us recognized and loved the breathtaking beauty of our natural world. Thank you for sharing this beautiful experience.
Oh my, I felt the slowing down, not wanting to scroll just yet to the new picture ahead. I felt my breath s.l.o.w., and felt the rise and rest, and in this full cycle of rise and rest, I expanded my view of your forest gallery without zooming in. These savory moments you offer are food for my soul. Thank you!
