Hello friends. Welcome back to the forest.
Things are beginning to change here in the mountains and the early signs of autumn are upon us; the air carries a slight chill, rain has visited and soaked the thirsty earth, and the colours begin to shift.
And so, my soul awakens from its summer slumber, ready to watch and capture as summer’s bounty fades.
Day after day through July and half of August, the earth remained dry; the scattered showers we received were not enough to dampen the soil and bring vibrance to the forest.
Until suddenly, a rainfall warning appeared on the horizon. And my heart leapt. The following day, I wandered a world I had so deeply missed. Raindrops glistened on needle and leaf and lingering flower. The smoke had been cleared from the air and the fragrance of the forest came through loud and clear.
Droplets catch and hang heavily on the last of the summer berries, eyecatching in their late-summer hue, they dangle delicately off the faded lacy foliage and drooping yellow grass.
Some bright spots remain—purple thistles dot the meadow’s ground and prickly leaves catch my legs as I stop to admire them.
But here we are, at a true sign of autumn’s imminent arrival; leaves already begin to fall from their lofty heights in the trees, yellows and reds creeping through.
Gently, these colours appear—the life cycle has nearly ended. Soon the forest floor will wear its autumn carpet, but for now, they still hang on.
See you next time,
♡ Whitney

Aaaahhh, those first few rains after the heat of summer.... Utterly delicious.
It seems to be the rain droplets, which capture my attention. The droplets seem to converse with the plant being nourished to create a beautiful moisturizer-effect I love how you create the character of the droplets, perfectly: "Let me just hang with you, dear plant, for a little bit longer, so you, too, can appear youthful!" The forest is alive and waking up through your eyes, Whitney. Thank you!
