In true spring fashion, the days flicker between sun-filled and grey, between warmth and a lingering chill from winter. The snow melts a little more with each passing day; the piles left are icy and hard, stubbornly clinging to the dark, shady corners. But they too shrink little by little as more and more nights remain above freezing.
One such warm morning this week, I took to the forest, determined to find and capture those small signs of spring as they emerged; my energy, as it always does, awakening alongside nature.
Though the moss never loses its colour during the winter months, it springs up from its flattened state now that it’s no longer buried beneath the snow. It brightens in vibrancy, especially when caught in the sunlight, looking almost impossibly green and nearly fluorescent.
Ground bushes and foliage also bounce up after their time spent compressed to the earth; some returning to health quickly, others remaining leafless twigs for now — though even the barest of branches boast the start of tiny buds.
Everywhere I look, the signs of spring are appearing; though they are subtle for now, and could potentially be missed if I move too quickly. I must practice my patience, wander slowly, and open my eyes to truly spot all the life returning to the woods.
Spring is an energetic time in the forest and I feel that energy reflected within me; I feel more inspired than in the months previous, and the pull to spend more time outside strengthens and builds — ready to explore, to bask, and to connect to the earth once again.
Until next time,
♡ Whitney
