In Quiet Rhythms
the forest in spring
Spring tiptoes toward early summer. The frenzied growth of earlier weeks has slowed. Easing into a slower expansion. A gentle blooming. A quieter rhythm.
The vibrant green remains, not yet yellowed and aged by sunlight and heat. Mornings still carry a brisk coolness, fresh and awakening. Wet grass prickles cold underfoot. Sweatshirt pulled low over hands.
And bounties bloom within the forest. Bunchberries flow through small meadows beneath openings in the canopy. Tiny starflowers reach toward the light. The forest in spring is alive and breathing. Past the explosion of growth, now settled into a feeling of calm.
Ferns unfurl into the cool morning air, slowly stretching fronds into the light, into the shadows. Through the undergrowth, through twig and root and branch.
The mossy expanse within the trees is dappled sun and shadow. Softly inviting. Peaceful in its messy imperfection.
Rest easy, in the silence of the forest.
See you next time.
