As Winter Melts
on entire worlds held within raindrops
A sense of warmth has returned to the forest these past days, bringing above-freezing temperatures and rain.
The snow melts quietly — heaps and hills receding slowly as water seeps down into the earth. Grass begins to peek out at the edges; a vibrant, albeit flattened, touch of green that prompts dreams of spring.
Every branch, twig, pine needle and cedar bough holds a raindrop. And the soft drip of water echoes through the woods.
I remember with fondness a time like this two years ago. When the light returned, when things began to melt. The entire forest glistened and sparkled, as if it had been adorned in jewels.
The forest held within a raindrop, while the sun glinted and brought magic to all it touched.
Trees, absent of snow, demonstrated that life lingered, hidden deep from the cold. Such love I hold for a forest of evergreens. For though some empty branches curl and swoop, still beautiful in their shapes, most of what meets the eye is countless shades of green.
A bright spot in the colourless expanse of winter.
Until we meet again to rest within the forest,
♡ Whitney

Such simple, everyday things - raindrops, pine needles, bare branches. But no less magical for their being such "ordinary" things.
I loved what you said: "the forest held within a raindrop." This really spoke to me. All the glistening raindrops can tell the story of the forest. You helped me to simply cast my eyes on the raindrops so I can hear the story being told. Thank you, Whitney.
