A Year in the Forest; Looking Back, Part Three
revisiting a few favourites; July through September of 2023
Hello, my fellow quiet seekers.
We left things last week on the cusp of summer; June was coming to a close, the days were getting warmer, and the frenetic energy of spring was beginning to settle.
Wildflower season continued, blooms were drenched in buttery summer sunlight and swayed gently in warm breezes.
From the tiny to the tall, the crowded to the solitary, I was always on the lookout for flowers — pinks, oranges, whites, purples, and yellows — a feast for the eyes and soul.
I wandered down many a fairy path and sat amongst the rain-speckled grasses and ferns; never rushing, always pausing, doing my best to appreciate the moments for what they offered.
August arrived and most days, it grew warm, slowing my pace further, but also my inspiration. We had days of wildfire smoke and murky skies. But I took advantage of a few rainy spells and spent those days cloud-watching and raindrop-capturing.
Overgrown and abandoned roads let nature show off her lush and vibrant foliage and I sat often amongst the quiet, tall trees.
And then came September, which brought a different array of colours to the woods; the colours of autumn.
One of the best displays of autumn colour I’ve ever witnessed, it was incredible to catch the leaves mid-change, boasting all the colours as life began to fade and the forest prepared for the approaching shift of seasons.
I leave you this week at the end of September. For the final piece of reflection next week, we’ll revisit the recent past and close out the final three months of 2023.
See you next week,
♡ Whitney

Red leaves are stunning 🍂
These exquisite photos remind me of my two trips to BC where my son lives. I live in Australia. Your photos capture what I experienced on my long walks in the forest, evoking as they do the moist air and stillness. Just beautiful.
