A Year in the Forest; Looking Back, Part Two
revisiting a few favourites; April through June of 2023
Hello, quiet ones.
Welcome back to my visit through last year in the forest; now entering my favourite time of the year — Spring. If I had to, was forced to, pick a season that I loved most, it would be this. I am most eagerly awaiting this lush green forest to awaken this year, but for now, we’ll settle into the past.
April in the mountains can be a slow start; snow often still graces the earth in patches or piles, the green has yet to flourish and brighten. And so last year in April, I visited an eternally green land that lies a short drive away.
Trees coated in draping moss and the forest floor showcasing its own miniature world below.
Back home, it wasn’t until the end of April that I saw the flowers begin to bud, the leaves to unfurl, and the snow melt away completely.
It seemed we had many rainy days last spring, or perhaps, those were simply the days I went out most. Needless to say, my photos highlight the drips and drops clinging to flowers, cedar boughs, and leaves.
The absence of such vibrant colours throughout the winter months makes everything seem so alive come spring; so saturated and pristine.
As June arrived, the flowers exploded and every corner of the forest bloomed and blossomed. Not in fields of flowers as we may see in meadows and grasslands, but in patches and clusters typical of the woodland landscape. Wild lilies, bunchberries, ash and forget-me-nots — a riot of colour and beauty.
June passes far too quickly for my liking and summer fully arrives; bringing heat and days of sunshine. But we’ll save that visit for next week.
See you then,
♡ Whitney
Absolutely stunning clarity! Enjoy this year's Spring and I wish you many more incredible moments in the lushness.
I just love looking at these photos! They’re so lush and full of life. Reminds me of Narnia or The Shire. Thanks for capturing and sharing this beauty.
