Clouds, Mushrooms, and Autumn Colour
celebrating the equinox with a moody walk through the woods
Low-hanging clouds and drizzly showers mark the first day of autumn here in the forest. Steel grey and dark, the surrounding mountains remain shrouded in wisps and whispers of rain.
Back from the cliff’s edge, away from the expanse of peaks, and turned instead, towards the trees; colours spark left and right. Green softly fades to yellow, to orange and brown.
Deeper still into the woods, low-lying plants and bushes take on a fiery hue; and vibrant red begins to take over.
Out in a clearing, a mist of rain gently falls; catching and collecting on sharpened tips of drooping leaves.
On the forest floor, nestled in moss and sheltered by foliage, mushrooms flourish and push up through the damp soil—recent shifts in the weather, from summer heat to the coolness of fall, have brought moisture back to the earth. All signs point to a bountiful and varied mushroom season.
Thank you for wandering with me as autumn settles in.
I’m wishing you all a happy equinox.
♡ Whitney

There's something that speaks from the gray (not grave 😅) as in spooky but magical. It's so very interesting having moved from the forest in the Pacific Northwest to the Nevada desert, we don't experience gray days. There is something that speaks the language of quiet, cozy, and nestled in the gray-colored scenery. Thank you, Whitney, for giving me this gift of this beautiful presence!
Gorgeous wander today, the cloud blankets had such presence (with the cherry on top — for me — being those cute mushrooms at the end)!
